To be a body is to leak in perpetuity. Yvette James explores the symbiotic exchange of matter between bodies and their environments. Through entangling materials such as engine oil, honey, silver, steel, and vapour, James’ sculptural installations critique the notion of purity. Leakages between architectures, bodies, and digital realms are expressed in James’ practice. The human body is an amalgamation of familiar and foreign substances: bacteria, bone, chemicals, sinew, plastics, and neurons.
